From Mantua to Sabbioneta by bicycle
Since 2008 Mantua and Sabbioneta have become part of the UNESCO world heritage site. Two cities with inestimable artistic and cultural heritage.
There is a bike way from Mantua to Sabbioneta, a cycle route promiscuous (bike and car) that connects the two UNESCO cities. The path leads along a low traffic through the wetlands of the Parco Oglio Sud, allowing you to discover otherwise unexplored environments and appreciate the cultural landscape characteristics of the area.
The project by the Office Mantova Sabbioneta UNESCO World Heritage (Municipality of the City of Mantua and Sabbioneta) and the Province of Mantua, with the collaboration of FIAB.
The route is part of the path of Ciclovia Tyrrhenian Bicitalia 16, which passes through the city of Verona, Mantua, Sabbioneta, Parma, Pontremoli, Marina di Massa, Livorno.
A cycle route promiscuous, (bicycle and car)but where cars rarely pass. The route has been identified with the aim of cross emergencies artistic and natural land, while ensuring maximum safety.
47 km (about three or four hours of riding), to get lost in the beauty of the countryside, surrounded by vineyards and apple orchards, shady deciduous forests and vast expanses of cultivated fields. Discover treasures beyond the beaten track.
Leaving behind Mantua, during the long but easy path (on roads with little traffic and flat), there are several countries, each with its excellence: Buscoldo with the late Baroque parish church, Torre d'Oglio and the bridge of boats and the oratory of Correggioli; Chiaviche of San Matteo (km 28, in the municipality of Viadana) with the Wetlands, whose name refers to the system that takes water scooping dall'Oglio to irrigate the fertile surrounding countryside; Commessaggio with the Torrazzo built by Vespasian Gonzaga and the country where you can taste the sweet melons produced here in abundance. Along Finally, Vitelliana the road, the old Roman military road, built by proconsul Vitellius, there is the hermitage of San Remigio, built in the seventeenth century to the pilgrims who came to Rome.
Ride after ride, while the details are lost and the houses seem to be a mixture of warm colors, you get almost suddenly, Sabbioneta (built between 1556 and 1591 by order of Vespasian Gonzaga), the "Little Athens" of the Renaissance, "The Ideal City", as it is called. The trail leads directly to Piazza Ducale, which is revealed in all its beauty, with the Palazzo Ducale symbol of his greatness.
